I have Win2k Pro although I don't know a whole lot about administrating it. I've had the operating system for a couple months now and it has been solid. It has never crashed on me. This is a huge improvement over Win9X, my previous OS. Win9X used to crash a couple of times per week especially if I did a lot of web surfing. Nicks Win9X crashed every 20 minutes!!

Anyway the wave of terror has begun. Now that I finally have an operating system that doesn't crash there is an even worse problem. All these virii are now out and they are much more sophisticated than they used to be. I obviously never open attachments, but these viruses can be contracted regardless. It is especially easy to catch these virii if you use Outlook Express. Infact nothing can stop them. Microsoft daily service packs are maddening. Who wants to have to update ever 2 hrs? I swear these crackers are going to write malicious virii soon enough. I hear that code red caused something like 2 billion dollars in dammage, and this is a virus that they caught early. I was able to avoid that one. The fact is that either OS writers can't protect users from virii or they don't want to. Now wait till this gets worse, it's getting worse, and the next generation OS's are even more dependant on the internet! It will be really interesting or else really sad to see what comes. It's obviously not going to be a bowl of cherries.

All these service packs are dedicated to fixing security holes manipulated by virus writers. What is the root problem? Why is it soo easy to write a virus or else why are there soo many highly skilled programmers writing virii? How far are we away from having any security? Is internet security better now than it was two years ago? I don't remember there being so many virii and having to defend your computer so agressively such as not being able to use certain programs and having to put your broswer security to 'high'. This problems getting worse me thinks... yes my precious...
