As I predicted.
Anyway.. How can I recover scratched cds? Any way I can get the files off of them, or fix up the surface?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry... It had to be done....
Anyways, isn't there some thing out there that's supposed to repair scratches in CDs? I coulda sworn I had seen them, but I don't remember where...

sometimes I've seen them too, but I'd like to hear about more of a specific solution, something a board member has used and can give a review of..

I know there is one that works for music cds. Not sure though if it works for information cds. I can't remember the name but I know I've seen it at plenty of music stores. It has a bright green piece on it, and it spins the cd or something. Im not really sure how it works.
I got some cd cleaners once, but mever could use them as the instructions said something like 'run pad in circular motion around cd' ..then later it said 'make sure you dont rub the pad in a circular motion as it will corrupt the data'...
you can get ones which slice a thin layer of plastic off the CD, so it's scratchless and clean. They're expensive tho.
I don't need cleaners, I need to repair scratches.
I am getting more posts this way, but content.. =)

its called a CD Buffer...it buffs cd's and takes off the scratches...totally repairs them...you can find them lots of places.
I just remembered the name. CD Doctor. That is another one that works with audio cd's u buy from stores. I am not sure about cd's with data though.
I just saw one of those at Officedepot but I didn;t see how much they were. But they did advertise fixing data, music, and "other" types of cds. Neato!

The ones for audio CD's will work with data CD's just fine. You can probably buy them at your local software/gamestore or perhaps a Music store.
And as for the direction you are supposed to wipe CD's in... From the inside to the outside in a straight line. Scratches in this direction don't cause too much damage - but I can't remember exactly why. Probably something to do with the amount of data that is lost with a scratch against the track rather than with the track.
There are little cases to put CDs in so they don't get scratched.

brass polish or t-cut the slightly abrasive car wax can do the job.
