Whats the best non-free (windows/linux)?
Thats it for new threads from me

I use avg from www.grisoft.com and it seems to work fine for me. It's free for home use.

Yea i was using that but it kept flagging a file that wasnt even infeted and giving me hassles...im more than willing to "buy" a non-free one if anyone has any suggestions...also, are there any good free linux ones?
[edit: Non-free]...
I believe Norton Anti-Virus is the best for Windows. Panda is alright, but Norton beats out Panda in several interesting catagories (PC World magazine).

This should help.
Sorted!
Such is life.
Does anyone use AVG from Grisoft on a domestic lan, (on a single computer connected to the net via a router)? I was reading their system requirements and it said it will not work in such an environment, but I couldn't really see why.

dude, don't use norton
I've ALWAYS had problems with it...decreased performance, longer laod times, bogus virii. In xp, the auto update won't install while norton is running, many installation programs that use the windows installer just hang forever. I do like the firewall and adblock, but it's just not worth it. Don't waste your money, just be careful and use spybot s'n'd.

I'm on Windows XP and i've never had any issues with Norton.

im running xp pro sp1
and i had trouble with it when i had it for 9x too

I run Norton on both my machines. The older Win95 machine has an issue with Norton and the LS120 drive, so I don't use it on that.
On the XP system, I, (when I remember), disable NAV when doing a Windows Update, as twice, (when I forgot), the auto update stopped, and I needed to hack the BIOS to get the system back online.
That said, I wouldn't buy any other because it does the job.

I've had Norton since 1997, never had a single problem with it.

I had McAffee until a couple of days ago. Suddenly, it slowed
down my system like hell!!! I don't know if this happens to
everyone but it sure did happen to me. It took 99% of my
resources a couple of days ago and I couldn't do $$$$!!!
I tried to boot up in safe mode at least 30-40 times but
the god damn mcshield.exe still gets into the memory. I
finally had to delete files directly from the folder because
it doesn't let me uninstall. I first deleted those files that
weren't being used by windows and then slowly deleted the
rest by booting the system several times. Horrible experience!!!
Just imagine booting the systems SEVERAL times and not
being able to see the desktop but just the stupid hourglass
right on the face!!! I somehow managed by booting it
in safe mode with different options... it was hell.
I just realised my Univ. provides Norton Antivirus for free.
So I installed it and so far I had no problem with it and I feel
it is a lot faster now.
Ive had major issues with Norton, and XP. I tried to install it. It would restart my computer while it was installing. I cant even fully uninstall it! It was a major pain.
I used AVG now. Its been fine, havent seen any real problems.
I use Opera , and if I have the browser open, and do a scan, the net runs terribly slow for a while, then it gets back to normal speeds.
I usually just close it and reopen Opera...
