Pick two random indices
Swap the contents
Repeat until bored.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
Rather than use three zeros at the end of the array, you could use an extra variable that holds the length of the array.
