I was about 7 miles from the epicenter, the original quake was a 4.1, the first aftershock was a 3.9, and there shld be some more comin pretty soon. It is fun, the ground starts to shake and u stand up and it feels funny
i like yoru sig. hehe... oh and isn't it cool that the richter scale is logarithmic? fun math for math freaks...

What the hell does logarithmic mean? I am pretty good at math (although I hate most of it), but I am only a sophomore in high school, should I know what that means by now?
OH man I remember my first quake. I was about 8 living in a suburb of L.A. It was early morning and we were getting ready to go to school. I was watching Good Morning America with my mom ( which was filmed in L.A at the time..still might be ..who knows) and we actually saw the quake hit them on T.V first ...about 15 seconds later it hit us. Let's just say the first time for a young kid was not fun LoL ...but you get used to em...I guess

A logarithm is more or less the opposite to an exponent.Originally posted by tim545666

Code:ln a = b <--> a = e^b lg a = b <--> a = 10^b log(c) a = b <--> a = c^b ln = log(e) lg = log(10)

A couple of months ago, we actually had some tremors. It was like a 3 on that one scale. (Sorry, but I'm from Arkansas; I don't know if a 3 is big or not.) It was on the news because...we are in Arkansas - we don't get many earthquakes down here.
To explain Magos' (ahem) explanation a little further, that basically means a 4 is 10X as powerful as a 3, which is 10X as powerful as a 2, etc....
We got one in MI about 5-6 years ago... It was like a 1.5 or so. Didn't do any damage, but sure scared the crap out of a lot of people, since mid-Michigan's never had one as far back as history's recorded here.

I was in seattle during that 6.8 one(or was it 5.8?).

my first thought was to grab the computer and run out of the house but then I decided that it would take to long to unplug it so I just ran under a door frame.

To my standards, that's pretty small, at least to the monsters we get out here. The one we had last night was a 4.2, but it seemed pretty big to me because I was real close to it. It is sorta interesting: the earthquake expert said that it was an aftershock from the Northridge quake (which was somewhere in the range of 92-95, i forgot).It was like a 3 on that one scale. LoL, I live in San Francisco...We sometimes get little quakes...They are fun, but the big 14 second ones really suck...That's when people tend to die...
What will people say if they hear that I'm a Jesus freak?
What will people do if they find that it's true?
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak, there is no disguising the truth!

Yeah but it's all good when no one gets hurt and no real damage is done (as in this quake)
I was living in the San Fran area back when that big one hit. Was it 1989? I can't remember. Prior to that I lived in Southern California and was quite used to the occasional tremor. When the San Fran one hit, I barely payed much attention to it but it scared the hell out of my sister.
