    Can someone recommend me a good free ebook on C

    Something for a beginner that's easy to read and is not windows specific .

    Well, there are simply thousands of online tutorials around. There's even one on this site. http://cprogramming.com/tutorial.html

    Actual E-books are a little less common, but they still exist.

    Either way, try searching the boards. (Try the C programming forum, especially.) It's come up many times in the past.
