I just started playing a few months ago. My wife and kids just started last week.
We played 9 holes today (walked) and had a blast.
So, anybody else here play or ever played?

I play for my high school's team. I'm pretty bad at it, but it's fun and playing in high school gets me free golf about 5 days a week in spring
I've been playing this summer too

I think golf looks fun, but I don't have the patience to learn it or get good at it.
Yeah, I do. I'm pretty good I guess.
This one made me chuckle

i play golf every now and then.
usually only play on a small par 3 course.
I used to play a lot, but a back injury prevents me from playing a round now. The odd bucket of balls on the driving range is all.
I have often condisered human knowledge will be complete once we have a single theory that explains the four forces of nature, electro-weak, strong nuclear, gravitation and the force that pulls golf balls towards hazards.

Adrian, that's the Murphian force you are referring to. You know, the cause of Murphy's Law.
I am a very avid golfer. In fact, it is my obsession, I love the game.
Highschool golf is great also...free range, rounds, polo shirts, prov1 and road trips with free dinner afterwards... if your good enough hehe
It is a great game that you can play basically your entire life!
axon: I played mini golf the other day with my dad and his girlfriend... some of those damn holes are irritating!

On the course at our local club, holes 5 - 7 all have very nice, very expensive houses lining the right side of the fairway. As soon as I stepped to the tee box, I thought, "man, I hope I don't slice..."
Aghhh! I hadn't hit a ball to the right all day until then! Sure enough, I soared over the street, out of bounds, hit the side of someones plastic garbage can, and bounced right back into the fairway! Over those 3 holes, I sliced 5 times; hitting a garbage can, a bush, a flower pot, a fence, and (almost) a dog (good thing he was quick and alert!).
We still had a ton of fun, though.
--hey, golfingguy.... I'd never have guessed you played.......

LOL. At the course I used to play at regulaly, my slice appeared at once, 1 and 2 along the road OOB. It then disappeared and I shot true until 12 when the water hazard on the left first appears. Then I'd hook until 15. True again until 18 when the car park came within range of a really good slice...
It happened pretty much every time.
My favourite memory was at a course called Airlinks, up near Heathrow Airport. From memory, the 15th tee. 3 of us took a longish iron. The fourth a 3 wood, and oddly, he seemed to be aiming well left of the rest of us? To vain to admit he needed glasses, he struck an almighty blow at the red noticeboard by the side of the club house. He'd might have reached it too with a driver, but he'd seen us take irons and assumed he was overestimating.
The same guy is the only one I know to have lost a ball between green and tee. He dropped his ball into one of those manual scrubbing brush type cleaners, and pushed the thing down a little too enthusiastically. The ball dropped out of the box and rolled briskly down the path back towards the last green and fell down a drain.
Golf is like fishing, everyone is full of stories. Good times. I have a Top Flite Magna 3 ball on my desk in front of me.

I live on the 18th green of a golf course, but I hate golf.

Speaking of which, do you notice that whenever you have good shots on a hole, you chip and/or putt badly? I seem to always three-putt when I could easily get a par if I two-putted.

Tell me about it! I had a sweet shot off the tee on the 9th, right up the fairway 2/3's of the way to the green on a par 4. Walking up the ball for my 2nd shot all I could think about was the possible birdie or at least the par that was waiting for me.Originally Posted by JaWiB
That's when I smacked it left into the bunker and, on my first shot out of the bunker, hit low, smacked the rough and bounced back into the bunker. And that was just the beginning of it....
What was supposed to be at least a par, turned into 3 over!
