So, is it decided that this thread is anti-Microsoft? Alright, I'm in! Here is my point of view of Microsoft's OSes:

-They take up too much space.
-They're unstable especially after long periods of time.

I think that's enough. But what can we do about it? Not much. Most software is only compliant with Windows. Not that I would go with Mac or anything stupid like that. But Linux might be a good choice. You can't just go ALL Linux though. Linux takes up less space and is more stable (I heard a story that the OS was running for almost a year and was as stable when it started).

Why on earth would you want to install Li(ame)nux? If you want stable, use Windows 3.1 or something, not much difference between the two...

What aspect don't you like about Linux? Can't you understand the commands? You don't like this invisuallity of it? Well, there is something call X-Windows which is a visual interface for Linux and the GUI is all natural. Give me reasons for thinking it's

I do b#tch quite often on this site concerning how M$ products are crap.....but if I am truthfull I would have to say that most of my comments are tounge in cheek....M$ products such as Win2k, Office2k and VC++6 (yeah even this one) are on the whole very good in my opinion, and I would not like to suddenly be without them.....My gripes mainly stem from M$ itself and not the products. For instance - I cant put the same copy of M$ software on my 2 computers......yeah right!!!! And all the stuff concerning Java - just goes to show that if they dont own it completely they will do whatever they can to work against it...

    >>-They're unstable especially after long periods of time.

    Win98/ME sure.....Win2K is very stable.....

    >>But Linux might be a good choice. You can't just go ALL Linux though.

I'm trying out Linux on a spare HD on my other PC....Its quite daunting at the moment as I am so used to and comfortable with windows. But I'll try as hard as I can with it (when I have the time).

    >>Li(ame)nux?

    Ha....very good.....
Both Linux & windows have their strong points.....different tools for different jobs

Yes, Fordy, you couldn't have put it better! Linux is a great tool, but it is so foreign to most.

I also agree, Linux is quite "daunting" at first glance. But, it is just commands that you have to analyze and remember. It is a great tool for computer literates. The transition from Windows to Linux is quite difficult. Windows pampers.

I agree that it is the company and OSes that are horrible from Microsoft. The applications (such as VC++6) are pretty good. That is what I program in. In fact, I've never tried Borland. Don't really want to. I'm content with VC.

    Good luck with Linux!

The OSes aren't that bad but they are overpriced and overrated by Microsoft.
