    Text to speech

    Hello everyone;

    I was just wondering if anyone has ever programed anything using the Text-To-Speach Engine. The reason why im asking is because awhile ago i downloaded a Speech engine, and it was only a trial version, and it didnt seem to let you do much. I now have XP and that seems to have the TTS engine 5 built into it. Can i just use that, or do i need to download one from somewhere. I am quite lost on where to start, so if anyone who has used TTS (and not Visual Basic LOL) could just give me a starting direction, that would be really cool!

    Thanks heap for reading this, and have a

    XXX MERRY CHRISTMAS and a safe new year! XXX

    I was wondering the same thing...I just like playing with it and making my computer call my brothers names...

    Heh, I think you can just load up a DLL and call some function and it'll cover the rest for you...not too sure, though.

    Hey Ken;

    are you using C/C++ to call your brothers name or are you using Visual Basic? because VB is the only way i have been able to use TTS. which was fun for the first few hours but left no chance for me to code my idea... I downloaded the Voice Studio for Visual C++ but i had no luck finding how to use the API. Can you or anyone else give me some details on where i should go next to start coding a TTS application? This is an idea i have had for a long time and now school is over with i finally have the time to start!
    Thanks heaps for replying Ken, have a merry x-mas

    When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

    I just went to start->control panel->speech, typed in some random things about my brother and hit preview voice

    That sounds pretty cool...I'm gonna bookmark that and play with it later...thanks!

    Hey if you guys have visual Basic on your machines, you can drag the TTS COM object across to your form and write some pretty funny programs. Try it out, because it puts its own lips in and they move to what you say. It looks pretty funny.

    yeah i had to make a virtual folio as a final project for a 3d Computer Graphics course i took last year. Anyway we had to film ourselfs speaking a intro to our folio, but i couldnt get a Video Camera so i just got a picture of myself, and put these lips over mine, and used TTS in Visual Basic to introduce my Folio. You should try and get a copy of it Ken, its pretty funny to play around with. Which is a shock because its Visual Basic...

    Oh I know, I used to mess with it when I got bored in that class...it's kinda fun after a while, but I'd never really want to make a major project in it...I'd shoot myself, first!!

    heh, I have VB.NET upstairs, and I made a game with it in like 10 seconds...it was kinda cool

    Okay i know have the TTS SDK downloaded and installed. How do i use it? can i just install it to the same dir as my compiler is in so that the header files can just be included and not the path name added. How did u guys set your SDK up?

    Thanks.
