Registry keys are specific to windows. They hold data in the registry, which store settings used by applications and windows itself. I understand the registry was first created for win 3.1 because it could not deal with long file names.

It depends what you delete. Potentially it could be bad.
You can see and edit the registry if you type 'regedit' into the Run command prompt under the Start menu. It will look a little like Explorer, but don't be fooled.
Why does your post leave me with the impression you are randomly deleting keys?
Just delete the keys which launch your browser, then we can just get on with life without your pitiful attempts to write malware.
