Thumbs up Best Anti - Virus Program?

    Hey,
I've always running into debates about which Anti-Virus program is the best and well I'd like to start a new one cause I'm still not sure which is the best lol. I have experience with Norton(2005-2007) and well it sucked and now I'm trying Kaspersky(2007) and its better than Norton but I'm not sure about it, I did like AVG(2007) though when I tried it hehe So tell me your thoughts on which you think is the best

I've liked AVG for the Windows install I have on my laptop. The university I go to recommends some enterprise version of Norton, but I didn't keep it and went back to AVG. I don't use Windows much, so I can't compare many anti-virus programs.

If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

One question here is: How do you define "better"?

    Some of these:
    - Lowest cost.
    - Least performance overhead.
    - Catches most threats.
    - Has the best user-interface [which leads to another "what's better" question]
    - Some other factor (you know someone who works for the company?)

You can't ask "which is best" without defining by which criteria you measure "best". It's like asking which car is best - the answer could be a Ferrari, if you want something to go round a race-track really fast. But if you want something that can haul 30 big bags of garden-waste to the local tip, the Ferrari is easily beaten by any estate or van-type vehicle. You could of course combine the requirements, and end up with some exotic "Estate sports car".

I've always been satisfied with a combo of the ZoneAlarm firewall and Spybot S&D, both of which are free.

Add "Doesn't completely screw the system" to the list. Far too many av "solutions" do that.

In my opinion the best is BitDefender 2008 Total Security! I have tested myself! It is just awesome! See here too! http://anti-virus-software-review.to...er-review.html
It has been ranked number one! I personally use AVG Internet Security and Spyware terminator! Great combo for security!

NOD32 for AV. It has the highest catch rate of viruses of all software AFAIK. Very easy to use and uses very little resources, so definetly a steal.

    hmm okay
    - Catches most threats.
I think would define better and least lag for the computer. I have 4gb of memory but kaspersky lags it a tiny bit and AVG doesn't lag it at all lol

Whats so funny? I don't inderstand. Possibly "lol" is also an abbreviation for "period"?

But on-topic; AVG Anti-Virus and Spyware have been my best experiences so far. Along with a good firewall such as Kerio and/or a nice hardware one. Avast! seems to be working well on my 64-Bit system so far. Not as if I've a lot of options though.

Well I find this the most important reason to invest in antivirus software. It's not difficult to update the software, but you have to update it often, and there is always going to be a small window of opportunity for viruses to infect, so its very important to have proactive protection. If PC World is any indication of quality than you might want to look into NOD32. I've heard it is very lightweight and scans quickly on most OSes.

I have no antiviruses, no firewalls. I just have Spybot S&D... I haven't even had any piece of spyware on my computer last few months. Dunno how I do it.
