Exclamation Cant Get On The Net!!!!

Ive got a really bad problem here, I can't get on the net using my own computer, when I connect, it does fine, but as soon as I try to access a site, 404 comes up and a small lock icon appeers next to the two little computers in the systray. Please help!

This is a pretty vague problem. Is there a problem with your browser? How do you really know you are connected to anything if you can't actually visit any sites?
    1. Ping your router, modem, and your ISP's server in that order looking for faults. If there are no faults then try to ping a more external server. Maybe check your router logs too.
    2. Try to let windows repair your connection.
    3. Call your ISP.
    My computer is awesome.

Well what program is that little lock? Is that actually YOUR computer or is it someone else's(such as your parents) who put that restriction on there?? It sounds like some web restriction software if a lock comes up when it doesn't let you access any site..

    My browser is fine.

Becuase the lock appeers on the icon, showing that its on my end.

    >> Is that actually YOUR computer or is it someone else's
No, the computer is mine, the only other thing I can think of is a virus is doing it.

What browser are you using? If you're using IE, try Firefox, if using Firefox, try IE, just to be sure.

Do you have a firewall? Specifically, it sounds like you could be experiencing the ZoneAlarm Internet Lock.

Yes I have ZoneAlarm, and it does seem to be the one creating the lock, but I can't load up ZA, when ever I try, it fails because it can't load VSPUBAPI.DLL

Try uninstalling, then use the web. If Zonealarm wont even load then I'd definately try eliminating that possible source before trying others

There's another problem, I can't. Whenever I try it fails because it can't shutdown TrueVector Internet Monitor, even when I have all other programs closed.

Shut down all the extra software/services that have anything to do with the network or network connections except for the core required services then try and ping, surf, etc.

This should narrow it down some. Assuming you have connectivity, bring up the extra stuff one at a time....

edit: Also, do you use a VPN connection? A lock icon in the systray might relate to that....

Yes, I have tried that in many different ways already.

    Nope.

Then how could Zone alarm be creating the lock if you shut it down?

It's possible that ZA doesn't have to be running to hold the lock, maybe locking the net/modem is a system setting that ZA altered, I'm really not sure, but I do know that this didn't happen until right after installing ZA. The other reason I think it's a sys setting is because I just went into safe-mode, and deleted the ZA files with the command prompt, but the lock is still there. But thats not all, I just discovered that I still can access HTTPS sites just fine, but not HTTP sites.

Yes I'm using IE, but trying a different browser won't work, because other programs, like a download manager, windows messanger, and other programs I created are all unable to access HTTP protocalls.

Well, I would reinstall zone alarm, then attempt to uninstall it again. Hopefully, the reinstall will fix whatever won't allow the uninstall.

If that doesn't work, you could scrub the registry for all zone alarm references, ensure that there are no services running that are tied to zone alarm and the network.

    Otherwise...
