    buy a new int. cpu 3.4MHz or a dual one?

    Hi, let me 1st say I dont really know much about motherboards or how they work really, I know mine had a stock of 478, and my cpu is a Intel Pentium 4 2.2MHz. From what I know about cpu the're differnt kinds of them and a few stock numbers, like 775. I was thinking of getting a new cpu like a Intel Pentium D dual 3.4MHz one, but it needed a 775 stock. So I look up some motherboards and didnt have a clue what I was really looking for besides a stock of 775 that was under $40 or lower...

    1Q. Can anyone help me, by telling me what would be a good motherboard (for under $40) if I went with this Intel Pentium D one?

    2Q. If I do get a new motherboard, do I have to worry about what kinda of RAM I have to get for it? Right now I have 1g of DDR memory

    3Q. Or should I even mess with this and just buy the Int. 3.4 singal core?

    First, you probably can't get a motherboard for under $40. Such a board would undoubtedly be dead on arrival.

    Second, if you want to be able to handle your older memory and still be able to go with newer memory later, I recommend this board. Granted it doesn't support as much overall memory, but it does handle both DDR and DDR2.

    As for the processor, there is no reason to hold back and stay with single core. The extra multitasking with dual core is worth it even if the programs couldn't make use of it.

    LOL nice, so how much should I go about spending on a motherboard, and what should I look for besides the ram and stock? Like what does this mean o.o; ? FSB 1066/800MHz <- ? LOL sorry for all the qun. I just really dont know much about motherboards ^^;

    I was going with dual core most b/c I run alot of games and other programs at the same time witch kinda slows down everything. ^^;

    FSB stands for Front Side Bus, which is the physical bus that transfers data between the CPU and such things as RAM, your add-on cards (AGP, PCI, etc), and most other components. The faster the better. The FSB speed will drastically affect the performance of your system.

    And I'd second that card Frobozz recommends, in terms of what you're looking for and the RAM you have vs. the price you want.

    P.S. Dual Core all the way. You'll never regret it.
