    Windows not using L2 cache memory

    Hi, i just found out that windows xp isnt using the L2 cache memory. (its default on 0 @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\SecondLevelDataCache

    Why is this? and does this mean that other applications wont use it either?

    Last I knew the operating system didn't have any access to L2 cache. I thought that was the job of the processor.

    Maybe read what 0 means?

    According to this, it means "go ask the hardware" for the real size.
