    Lappy gone Toppy

    Hey,

So today I logged onto my laptop, and saw no obvious things wrong with it until I tried to open a folder on my desktop - the left mouse button wasn't working, or rather it was, but it simulated a right mouse click rather than a left. So I clicked the open, with the left mouse button, and it worked.

Now, I thought it was just something that would get fixed if I shut down windows and restarted (you know, it seems to work for a lot of things), but it didn't fix it. In fact, it took me about 5 minutes to figure a way around the blue login screen without the left mouse button working.

Now the really odd thing is that this problem only exists on the desktop, and while navigating through the hard drives, right mouse button does nothing while the left acts as the right, but when surfing the net and whatnot, the left and right clicks work as normal.

To say the least, I'm completely confused about this problem, and don't know what could be wrong. Anyone got any ideas?

Yup. that's strange alright. I would be very tempted in tossing that one in the Bag of Things Hard to Explain, aka virus.

But... is it a cordless mouse? If so you can try replacing the battery. I've had weird behavior with cordless mice and weak batteries.

Touchpad. I dont think it's a virus though. I'll scan anyways.

Also, the right button doesn't work in the internet :/

    Touchpad, eh?

Seems like it's time to pay a visit to your customer support. Not before reinstalling the drivers though...

EDIT: If that's the laptop you are going to give to me for free, then i dun'wann'it no mo'

    New avitar eh?

Hmmm, I never liked the sound of customer support. I've just tried a windows support forum to see if anyone there has any ideas.

This kind of thing really annoys me. It's just a bit too random, and yet structured.

I would suggest reinstalling the drivers... grab an external mouse and go at it.. . Mario F. I didn't know that was you posting til I read the new avatar... then again, I usually don't pay attention to such things unless the person says something off the wall or really insiteful...

Hmmm. I think I'll go to bed soon, and try to forget about the mouse thing and hope Lappy has too by the time I wake up.

Have you tried using a different mouse? It could be windows has done something with the drivers for your touchpad.

Yeah, just tried it there. I have tried using a new mouse, or rather a mouse, and it works just as one would expect ... that implies that's it's a driver thing, right? It also seems to spontaneously 'click' in places ... every now and then it right clicks randomly ...

Not necessarily a driver thing, no. Try reinstalling the drivers. If you don't have the laptop CD anymore, you will get them from the makers website.

But chances are... you will need to turn it over for a couple of days.
