Exactly what services are needed for internet connection? What is the best way to set them. Automatic or manual ? Looking for more secure settings. What services would you say is unnecessary? Why? meow? tia?

    Some not critical services:
    Automatic Updates
    Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    System Event Notification
    COM+ Event System
    Cryptographic Services
    DNS Client
    Help and Support
    IPSEC Services
    Network Location Awareness (NLA)
    Protected Storage
    Server
    SSDP Discovery Service

BTW these services are not only related to internet connection.

what about workstation and webclient also not critical?

i have network dde off <and on line> and nla also off.

QoS RSVP set to auto or manual .... think this is nessessary.

I think you should keep workstation, but you may disable webclient (I've disabled it and have no problems).

i had all of them off that you stated except for dns client and com+. when i turned off dns client firefox asked if it could be a dns sever thru zoneoveralarm. Also could not get to any web sites when i turned it off. that was fun.... i prettymuch turned everything off. there were a few i had questions about. i did fine the msdn page that tells you what every service is but not how to set them. according to them <rat in charge of the cheeze><and i do mean rat....remoteadmin> you should have everyting on. one service was slipping a dropper on. anyway thanks. dhcp seems also to be excencial. network dde is just for lan?
