    "::" in Mac Classic file system

    What does a double colon "::" mean in Max OS 9 and earlier ("classic")? I know a single colon is a directory separator; "directory:file" references file in directory the root directory; ":file" references file in the current directory. But I don't know what "::" is.

    I saw it in an SDL makefile:
    Code:
    "::lib:SDL_main.o"

    It means moving up one level in the directory tree.

    a:b::c:d = a/b/../c/d
