    Possible Windows MDAC problem

I have a remote user that is encountering a possible MDAC problem with software that creates and uses a Microsoft Access MDB database. He is constantly getting a "Adox.Catalog provider cannot be found" error when the software tries to create the Access database.

I have Googled and the only the only solution I found is that the binaries and/or registry entries are corrupt and that MDAC should be reinstalled. The remote user claims to have reinstalled MDAC 2.7 and this did not resolve the problem.

Unfortunately, I cannot recreate this problem on my own machine and traveling to the remote location is not an option.

The provider I'm using is Micorosoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0. The users' OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.

Does anybody have any other suggestions for resolving this problem?

    Thanx

Do you have Remote Desktop access? I would have to wonder if msadox.dll and the rest are installed and properly registered.

You could ask him to try install MDAC 2.8...see if that fixes things.

Unfortunately, remoting to his machine is not an option because security is an issue on his part. I recommended that he deregister and then again register all the DLLs found in the c:\program Files\Common Files\System\ADO folder.

Also, MDAC 2.8 would not install for the user. He received a "MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible with this version of Windows. All of its features are currently part of Windows". The reinstall of 2.7 worked fine.

I also had him send me a dump generated by MS's reporting tool, MPSRPT_MDAC.exe. I could not find any problems. I also compared the dump to a dump of my own machine and they are exactly the same.

Problem resolved. Somehow the user received a corrupt binary from me. This was determined by checking the file size of his binary against the file size of a known good binary. Sent him another binary and he no longer encounters the problem.
