has anyone used extended desktop with an ati video card?

i have an ati radeon x1300. just got it yesterday and its pretty good i like it. one thing it has that my last card doesn't is the s-video output so i can alternatively use my tv for a screen instead of my monitor.

i figured out how to swap inbatween the displays. but what i want to do is be able to have a "dual desktop" so i can watch videos on one screen and still click stuff on my monitor. kind of like an extra wide monitor (which is what i beleive extended desktop is) another thing that world work is to have it output video out of the regular monitor output and the svideo at the same time

i can't seem to figure out how to do this though

Have you installed the ATI HYDRAVISION off the install CD? Aftwards, your options will all be readily available in several ways, the simplest of which being Desktop-Right-Click->Properties->Settings Tab. From there you should have your display settings available.

Unfortunately my box with the ATI card installed has a fried PSU right now (&%#$!) and I'm running my dual monitors on a diferent system with an nVidia card so I hope I'm remembering this correctly.

P.S. You should also ensure that your card has this capability. Some cards that advertise as having multi-outs actually just have cloned outs. Which means that though you could hook up both your TV and your monitor, you may have no option but to see the same thing on both. Chances are that if you've got a VGA, DVI, and an S-Video out off your card, you're good to go.

one other thing is, this happens mainly i think only when the screen resolution changes or certain kind of things like this. the screen "tears up" then corrects itself as if something was wrong, i dont know if maybe this is has something to do with maybe not a big enouh power supply (500 watt its pretty big) or something or if its just how the card handles it, my last ati card didnt do it like this (but that was all on a different motherboard and everything)

The effect you're describing I'm fairly sure has nothing to do with your PSU or hardware at all. I assume the effect you're talking about is the chaotic flicker you see when you start/terminate a graphical fullscreen app which has to do with the applications method of locating supported video settings and has nothing to do with your card.
