    Installing ANSI.SYS on XP

Dose anyone know how to install ansi.sys on XP to enable cmd.exe and programs that I write to use ansi escape codes?

I've tried putting device=C:\WINDOWS\system32\ansi.sys in config.NT(found at C:\WINDOWS\system32\), like some googled site said, but that does not work.

I've also tried device=%SystemRoot%\system32\ansi.sys. No effect.

Command.com works. But console programs that I write do not use command.com.

How would I get my console programs to use command.com?
