Salary.com has the answer for you.
OK, thanks!
I've worked on Wall Street (banking, brokerage, etc) for a few years and I could tell you in that field that systems(programmers), in comparison to the operations side, make better money and work more reasonable hours. Is it an easier job? I don't know... they definitely take alot of ........ from operations, though. Still, it appears to be a good paying field.

Programmer salaries have dropped seriously since 2001. I now earn about 30% less than back then, and I'm making a pretty average salary both then and now.
Stock broker salaries however cannot be compared to programmer salaries. They indeed have a lower base salary but they make a lot more than that because they all get a percentage of the stock volume they handle.
I'm not talking about stock brokers, I'm talking about back office work. Tax Reporting, Dividends, reorg, etc...

Theres an influx of them definantly, it really depends what kind of programmer you are. Some programmers I know make a fair bit (50,000 - 65,000) from maintaining and updating a webmail server. Game programmers usualy get screwed early on, but they can end up making a very good salery. (Blizzard Ent. proves that :P)
