    NTFS Partition Shrinker

    I've searched high and low for a FREE NTFS partition shrinker with no avail.

    What I want to do is this:

    ATM I'm running win XP on a single partition. I want to shrink this partition to *size* so I can create another couple of partitions for a Linux distro.

    The only way for me to do this now is to erase the current partition then create two+ new ones, but that's REAL inconvienient for me (as you're undoubtedly guessing).

    Does anyone know of an NTFS shrinking program (FREE)?

    Any help appreciated as usual

    Mandrake

    A year or two ago, I installed Mandrake. It had an installer which managed to shrink my NTFS partition correctly. Of course, the same thing wiped my friends hard disk, so YMMV. It has probably improved since then, so I'd recommend just downloading the first CD and attempting to resize from that, but back up first!

    To my knowledge there is no free program which can resize an NTFS partition. I've searched before, but came up with nothing. In the end, I had to buy partition magic.

    I've got a copy of Partition Magic (came on a custom-made recovery disk by the local Unix group) and it does pretty well. But my advice to you is, if you choose to purchase Partition Magic, instead opt to go with a second harddrive.

    It's an 80GB 7200RPM ATA133 drive. More than sufficient for Linux.

    Heh. So you didn't like my idea? Oh well.

    Actually I had faced a similar issue a few months back. But I never got around to purchasing another harddrive. That and my 120GB drive is slowly running out of space for Windows. When Windows Vista is released, I'll probably backup my important files and invest in a newer bigger drive. At the moment a 250GB drive is only about $100. By then it will probably be around $80.

    It may be a little late, but this is the actual program:

    According to their website, it can resize NTFS partitions. I guess you'd run it off a Knoppix CD or something.
