modem to modem connection

I want to play a multi-player game through my modem by connecting to another person using the telephone line. I saw the windows wizard.. it seemed all clear.. but I still can't manage to get a connection.. Any resources?

You shouldn't have to connect directly to their modem unless you're talking about skipping the whole "internet" portion of things. If the computers are in the same room, why not use a network card??

first off, when doing modem to modem, you need a special adapter. I can't remember the name of it right now but any tutorial on configuring a router over the com port will tell you. Secondly, modems have horrible throughput. Good luck playing anythingm modern (you might be able to run starcraft, quake I, and doom 95)

I play thrugh modem to modem some old games like Fifa99 and 2000.
One of you two guys only will spending money.

In the same time (little earlyer then oether) one man must click in the game Waiting for Call. And oether must Call Your Number (you home number or you number on which modem is connected).

And if you got firewall I sugest you turn it off or configure it.!

And that is it.!!!

Umm.. first of all none of us will be paying for the telephone.. The telephone line here is free.. we just pay a monthly fee.. I can't connect the computers using a network card because the computers aren't in the same house.. they're in the same city .. What I really want is not to play a game.. but to share files.. A friend of mine is connected to a network (with lots of videos, games, music and stuff).. and I want to be able to access that network using my modem and him.. is that possible? (No it's not cheating :P)

if you're both on the internet, you can set up dynamic dns on both ends. Then you can set up ftp. That would be the easiest way. (since you're on dialup dynamic dns is a must because the ip address changes each time you connect).

There was some stuff in WindowsXP like connect directly to another computer using the telephone line.. I managed to set up the reciever.. but I couldnt setup the tuner.. It just says that the password is wrong.. but the password is good cause I checked it like a hundred times.. That's why I'm looking for some tutorial.. What you said about both being connected to the net I think that's called a virtual personal network.. that's not what I need

it is possible. The connection has to be made as if it were a direct dial connection. Unfortunately, windows xp does not support direct dial connections (meaning you can connect to a windows 2000/2003 server via direct dial, but not receive a connection). It's going to be more hassle than it's worth.

Well.. I heard that some programs can allow that kind of stuff.. I tried windows hyper terminal.. but that isn't exactly what I'm looking for.. maybe WinGate is an answer??

unless windows xp will recognize the network connection it creates you will simply have a hyperterm or other similar session. file sharing won't be possible (plus, file sharing will be extremely slow over a modem to modem connetion, you're better off burning it onto a cd and driving over). I'm also unsure of the type of phone charges that would be placed upon you in these situations. Is it not possible to get high speed internet in your location?

file sharing is slow.. cause I tried sending a file over hyper terminal.. the speed is about 4kb/s.. yes that is slow.. we have high speed internet.. but it costs too much.. I mean paying like $0.09 for one megabyte is nuts...

That's not any slower than what you should expect for phone lines. If you need to share files without high speed internet, I'd suggest using some state of the art technology called 3.5" floppies. If you really want to get high tech, I heard that there's this new thing called a CD-R that supposedly uses lasers and works really well. I don't know about all that though; maybe you should stick to 5.25" floppies. </sarcasm>

yeah, it's still going to be quicker and easier to just burn things onto a cd and run them over...what do you need to share anyway?

If you are going for removable storage, look into usb keys and the like.
