One of my computers was giving me a lot of trouble, so I replaced a few components.
MoBo ECS P4S5A -> ASUS P4P800S-E Deluxe
RAM 256MB DR2700 -> 1GB DR3200
Disk 120GB Seagate Barracuda S-ATA, (old disk now mounted as just a regular second drive)
After setting it all up, I have an odd visual problem. The screen has an odd "shimmer", but not all of the time. About 50% of the time it looks completely normal, the rest of the time it "wobbles", less then a millimeter, but really irritating when trying to read it! This problem was not there before I upgraded these components.
I have installed the latest versions of the graphics card driver, (NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400), and the driver that came with the monitor, (Samsung SyncMaster 171B flat panel). The settings in XP are the same as they were before, i.e. 1280 x 1024 x 32bit at 72Hz.
If the screen were a crt, I'd be looking for some kind of electrical interference, but I don't think the flat screen is affected in that way. In any case, nothing has been added in the vicinity for ages.
Any ideas? It is really annoying!
