    Game problems!

I have a problem, at my school during some hours they are closing all ports except 80 and some more. And this makes when we have free time etc I can't play my dear game World Of Warcraft.

So my question is there a way passing through it or maybe use the 80 port?

Note! I'm not one of those who wants to play on lessions etc!

There used to be a program called "SocksCap32" that I used to use at college to tunnel through the proxy server. I don't know if that program is still available or not, but it worked great.

Why are you guys helping someone bypass the security of a school's network. A school provides computers to serve as a learning tool, and I don't think you can learn anything useful from a videogame. I mean, yes this information is easily available online, but do you guys really have to even point him in the right direction?
there used to be something here, but not anymore

    >they are closing all ports except 80 and some more.
all and more? thats sort of metaphysical. Ask them how they do that, and let me know.

    EvBlade is right...You're in school.
Even if it's not during a lesson, since you're in school you should be studying or doing something constructive. Just some good friendly advice.

    edit:
    >they are closing all ports except 80 and some more.
    I totally read that wrong...
    Hmm

So what if hes in school? Maybe hes done his work and needs to unwind?? I know a good hour of AA or HL2 can calm me down during a bad day, and i get all my studies done. Or no lets not help him and have a kid shoot up his school (just an example).

On that end i disagree, BUT, i would be inclined to suggest this thread violates forum policy, as tunneling is a violation of most schools internet use policy.

Yes, thanks for some nice replys, and before you start whine about the computers is the schools and etc, it's my very own laptop.

I think I'll look further into this tunneling thing .

Oh and sorry for my bad english, it's not my primary language.

Tunneling is an answer to even productive software needs. When I was in college, my school's firewall blocked me from running things like instant messengers for a while (they eventually fixed that). Is it productive for me to chat online? No. Was it a cheap, effective way for me to stay in contact with my family. Yes.

Video games are a stress reliever and I'll help anyone find a way to play them and I don't think that is illegal.

Thanks for thinking you're a moderator, but unless you can point out something illegal about this I don't believe anything's going to happen.

I don't think tunneling should be supported and/or promoted by this programming board. It's far too close to the hacking realm for my tastes. Read your school's TOS for internet/computer usage. I'm sure bypassing the firewall for personal, business, education, or for entertainment purposes are all prohibited acts. If I bypass the firewall for anything at my workplace....immediate termination...no questions asked.

Give me bad rep if you must....but I agree with Ev that this is not the appropriate place to discuss this, and no I'm not a moderator but yes I do have an opinion and I have the right to express it.

A violation of any TOS regarding usage of internet or computer systems of an organization providing a service to you is illegal in my mind. No your act was not 'illegal' in the perfect sense but it was a violation of the terms of service for your school and therefore was wrong. I could not in good faith support any action on a computer system/network/server that violated the terms of service.

Whether or not it is against his TOS his between him and his school. If he gets busted for playing games at school, it's his fault, and I'm sure he knows the possible consequences. The point remains that there are legitimate reasons for tunneling and it is not illegal. Would you do the same thing if someone asked for advice on bittorrent?

It's not against any rules that you can't play at schooltime so stop drabbling about that, because you don't anything about my schools rules. But I can see your point , so .

    Thanks for the replies all.

we didnt say dont play at school time, we said theres a reason they block those ports and it may be illegal or against school policy. Pay attention to what were saying not what your reading in your own little world.

You obviously don't know anything about them either or you wouldn't be asking total strangers about how to bypass their system.

Alright, I'm going to close this thread now. OP, if you had a legit reason for this you've got your answer, and there's no need for anymore flaming.
