    vnc applications

I'm considering getting high speed internet because I want to be able to do remote administration for the company I work for. However I'm not sure if I could use a vnc program to do so. Basically, they receive their internet via a wireless connection into a bridge, then into a router. So I know the ip address that the outside world sees their network as. But how can I actually get into the network to actually connect via vnc? I've only ever used one vnc program and that was on the internal side of a network. Are there any out there advanced enough to let me connect to a network that's behind a router?

I think you'd want to set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) between your work and remote sites. Not only does this take care of tunnelling through firewalls etc, it encrypts all the traffic on the public internet.

However, saying it is one thing - actually setting it up is another. Your network admins should be able to do this.

Then (as far as vnc is concerned), you're still on the local network.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

    heh...you're talking to him

I wasn't sure if vpn's would work through the firewall like that or not, I've never had to set one up initially, just try to figure out why one's not working. Thanks for the tip, I'll do that this weekend probably and see if I can dial in. Thanks again.

There is supposedly a version of VNC that will work the way you want it to. Having said that... I have tried using it and after about an hour or so of playing with it, was unsuccessful and gave up.

We use WinVNC, perhaps http://www.realvnc.com/ could answer some questions for you.
Microsoft is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistant one.
