    Linux Laptop recommendation

    Hi,

Since on my old Laptop (HP Omnibook XE3) the keyboard keeps dying and the internal clock is dead, I want a new one. However, I want to install Linux on it. So my question is, does anyone have recommendations for me? Here are my requirements:

Linux should work as well as possible. Sound, WLAN, the media keys and sleep modes. I don't mind doing a little work (I'm going to install Gentoo, that's some work anyway), but I do mind paying money.
The keyboard layout MUST have the Ctrl key to the left of the Fn key, in the very edge of the keyboard.
Average speed computer. If possible, large and bright display.

    Thanks.

have a look at HP laptops.. some new model comes installed with Linux... and dont think of buying a common laptop and installing linux on it. most of the time the hardwares in laptops are not supported... Do some research on some linux forums.... My sony does not run red hat, mandrake etc etc have to change lots of options to make linux work on it.. but Gentoo worked the first time...

    Dell 600m, Centrino, Radeon 9000.

Runs Fedora Core 2 without a hassle.

Before buying my laptop, I went to TuxMobil and made sure that Linux runs well on the model.

From what I have researched IBM thinkpads are the most linux friendly laptops available. The only downside is that they are not cheap, but if you are interested in other models check out this page: http://www.linux-laptop.net/

Thanks people. After looking through TuxMobil I have decided on a Dell Inspiron 600m.
