    6 "pin" rj-11

    Has anybody ever seen a 6 "pin" rj-11 (not rj45) type plug? Does anybody know what theyre called? what theyre for?

    Yeah I've seen the 3 pair rj-11s A LOT during my telecomm days.

    We used them for the programmable phones. The data would run over the insider most pair and the power would run over the outer most pair. One reason they put it on a third pair was so that if someone plugged in a normal two line phone they would get fried.

    Also you can use them to run 3 lines to a location.

    Also IIRC the ISDN phones ran off of 3 pair lines
