Sony VAIO ethernet connection troubles

Ok, my ethernet port in my VAIO is pretty loose, and it's really hard to keep a connection with it. My laptop is no longer under warranty, and I don't want to spend money to get it repaired when I just suspect the NIC card in the laptop is loose. But how exactly do I get in there? I noticed a couple screws on the back panel of it. Then there are a couple of things on the bottom that look like they might let you access the inside. The model number of it is PCG-992L if that helps. I just don't want to be opening every panel on it, which adds to the chance of me messing it up. Again, I'm trying to get to the ethernet port.

If you have to unscrew anything to get to the ethernet port, that means it's onboard...and if it's loose...there's no fixing it without taking the serious risk of frying your entire board. Just buy a pcmcia ethernet adapter and save yourself the headache of getting the board replaced.

Actually I have one of those around my house somewhere, but I can't find them. And I just tried a different Cat 5 line, and it's connecting fine right now. But I don't plan on moving it to possible disrupt the connection until I find it. Thanks for the help

For a Sony Vaio, most likely you're going to have to go in from the top. I just worked on my brother's and I took all the screws out of the bottom before I realized that I had to remove the keyboard to access anything. Granted, his is 2 or 3 years old, but the models haven't changed much.

Bah, Its bunking out on me again. It worked REALLY good since my last post in the thread until today. I'm going to have to get an adapter this weekend. Any ideas on the cost of one of those? I'd suspect they're cheap.

A wireless lan isn't really what I need. My laptop is restricted to it's one spot as is. Thanks for the links though!
