I only have one copy of windows xp home....
My problem is this:
My younger brother installed windows xp home on top of windows 98 on a computer i have been building...when windows xp was installed it scrued up the regestry making it impossible to uninstall programs. Is it possible to UNINSTLL/DELETE all programs/flies including windows 98 leaving only windows XP?

How bout you try reinstalling xp and umm grrr can't think of it. oh re-format your disk that should take care of any old data

Well, you could have deleted everything in program files that you didn't want, gone into registry editor and deleted everything (i mean everything) then done an in place reinstall of windows...but that would have taken about the same amount of time and there's no guarantee you'd get it all.

thanks, anyways, i reformated and now i am looking for a new free OS... i dont realy want windows anymore... i have been looking at FreeBSD and i am in the prosses of instaling it. Does anyone have anyother suggestions on a free OS?
PS ya, beating up my brother helped alot... just didnt fix anything.... oops ^^
Mandrake is a good Linux disto for beginners. Gentoo is good for updates (portage).
I sure hope you're not using freebsd 5.1, that was a horrible version.
