Ok, so I decided to start another thread in the hopes that people that might be ignoring the other one might read this one.

I have reformatted and reinstalled windows on the laptop to no avail. The origional problem was this: You boot up and it sits at the Windows XP Home loading screen for an extended period, and then you get a BSOD saying that "atapi.sys" is missing. So I did a reinstall without a format and then it would just do the same thing, BUT it would reboot when you get the BSOD. I could not get into safe mode or anything, with the system hanging on a file called mup.sys on that attempt.

I have even tried removing the HD and putting it into my desktop, but a variety of configuration failed and I was never able to get my desktop to even recognize the drive. However, I don't think it's the hard drive because it went through the reinstall and the format just fine and supposedly reinstalled windows.

So I'm lost on what to do next. I'm beginning to think the mobo is toast.
