Ok... here's the deal. I thought I had everything hooked up right, but I wasn't able to record anything from my TV.

Here's my setup:

TV (A/V hookups and a coax in)
DVD/VCR Combo (A/V in and out, coax in and out)
Reciever with all kinds of I/O

Previously, I just had the coax coming into the tv so we could watch cable on the TV. So I went and hooked the coax into the in of the VCR/DVD player and ran the coax out into the coax in of the TV. Everything still works, and we have all 70 some channels on the TV.

HOWEVER, when I use the VCR/DVD player to flip through the channels, it only displays the first 12 or so on the TV. These are all broadcast channels (CBS, ABC, etc.) It will not display the other channels, and hence I cannot record the other channels.

So my question is, is there any way to make my existing hardware record the other channels, or do I need some sort of descrambler to get the other channels through my DVD/VCR player?

I also had it hooked up so that the cable signal was going through the TV and then into the DVD/VCR, but that only gives me the first couple channels also.

So this all leads me to believe that the DVD/VCR player cannot descramble the other cable channels like my TV can.

Help?
