    ram deal

    i have 2 512 sticks of ram in my AMD machine. my friend only has a 256, and he says hell send me 50 bux and his 256 if i send ih one of my 512s. would that be a big difference step from 1 gig? i like to play alot of high end games while listenign to music. (btw i have corsair and hes gonna send me a kingston...)

    No chance! For a start, if you change to running off of two different types of RAM, you'll probably have two different latencies and bandwidths on the transfer rates, thereby limiting both by the slowest factor. Both sets of chips will effectively work off of whichever has the slower bandwidth and whichever has the slowest latency as the processor won't be able to perform intelligent pipelining with the staggered information flow. That's all aside from the performance loss due to the smaller amount of RAM to work off!

    There's alot more to it all of course, but long story short- as ober said already- DON'T DO IT!

    yeah man, that's not a "deal" you couldn't get a stick of 256mb for 50 bucks anywhere.
