Angry Memory issues under win 98...

My computer has suddenly started to use vest amounts more memory than it actually has. As in 250 of 128 megs allocated, after multiple spyware/virus scans and a restart. It has gotten to the point where it is nearly impossible to do anything on it (I'm typing this at work be cause my internet connection was the first casualty) . Does anyone have any ideas as to how to remedy this problem. It has been occuring pretty constantly for the past 2 days, before which it was running extremely smoothly.

    Get a new OS.

I'm having the same problem in 98SE. I just went from 384 RAM to 896 and it only increase resources by 10% which is absolute 100% BS.

98SE does a very poor job of managing memory and is not suitable for the memory intensive multimedia applications of the day. I have lots of problems when running online games and teamspeak as well as browsing the internet. 98SE just cant cut it.

Since Longhorn has been delayed and initial reviews of it pretty much suck...you should go out and buy XP Pro at your nearest software store ASAP. It will be supported for quite a long time given the problems with Longhorn.

The old BURGERMASTER memory manager strikes again.

I think you can get 3rd party managers for Win9x, a bit on the hacky side, but you can't deny that 98SE is still the leanest rendition of the modern Windows platform (Like a CE for desktops), so it still has its uses.

AFAIK, Windows 98 doesn't know how to handle more than 324MB of memory, so that would be what's causing your problem.
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah

mind recommending some good memory managers?

As to format c: if I do that it'll be gwscan, then format. I don't want any trace of anything when I start over.
