I have a running home network with cable internet and a belkin 4 port router. All computers run XP. I am using the 192.168.2.x ip set with a 255.255.255.0 subnet.

The network computers run off DHCP, which i want to change so all my ip's stay the same. I went to the router config thru IE and turned off DHCP. I then went to my pc, and opened the TCP/IP settings for the network connection.

I clicked specify ip, and made the settings as follows:

ip: 192.168.2.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.2.1 (router)

DNS: 68.46.114.XXX (static ISP ip, i blurred the last three digits).

Now with these settings, i couldnt get internet or AIM working, but i can still get into the router. I rebooted/shutdown the router, modem, and both computers (my dads and mine).

Still nothing. Now, let me tell you why im doing this.

I am going to be hosting a UO server using Sphereserver. This means i need to setup the router to forward port 2593 to my pc (192.168.2.2). Last night i had setup two virtual servers in my router:

port 2593, TCP, on 192.168.2.1 (router)
port 2593, TCP, on 192.168.2.71 (my pc, note 71 was the old DHCP ip)

This was working, until i restarted the router and it changed my computer ip to 192.168.2.55.....now you see my problem. So i go back into the router, and its only showing one port forward:

port 2593, TCP, on 192.168.2.1 (router)

Dammit, saw that coming. So i add a new forward with my new ip for my pc. Identical to the one above with a .55 instead of .71.

I click apply, and the router erases it. Now your upto speed with where i am. I need to start by getting rid of DHCP so maybe then i can get it to forward to my comps ip, which will then be static.

Hope i made sense, how can i get it to work without DHCP?
