    cpu temps

hey i usualy dont play games on my cpu but i was playing one yesterday and my computer just shut of when it got too hot. first time thats ever happend to me. i have an p4 1.7 i downloaded intel temp monitering program and saw that while playing the game the temp realy goes up on the processor and eventualy the whole case.

my question is other then adding more fans is there anything i can do?
when i pt the computer together i used thermal gel between the processor and the heat sink. is that something that should be done again or do most only do that once when the system is put together.
    thanks

if i get you correctly your using software or bios to monitor temps, not very accurate. You'd be better with a probe.

Have you checked your heatsink and fan for large amounts of dust? Running a game shouldnt shoot the temps up that much, but you also didnt tell us the temps.

cpu temp is usualy around 39 C or so when idle and low 40s durring normal use after playing the game for like 10 minutes just to see what would happen the temp was up to 59 already the time it shut off it must have been much hotter though cause then the top of the case was verry warm to the touch

what game is that? Did you run prime95 to see what it runs at? Under prime95 with my old setup i could get 39C full load.

The setup in the mail is going to make my setup a total BEAST.

My p4 2.8 goes at 23 idle and 37 under full load.

(Yesterday morning it was quite cool and the idle temp was 19.5!!!)

edit*** The room temperature was quite cool. Starting to get winter here
