Networking help.

I am trying to hook three computers up to each other to share an internet connection. This is how I have it now:

Computer1(Main Computer) is connected directly to the cable modem through usb. This computer is also connected to my lynxs router in slot uplink.

Computer2 is connected in slot 3
Computer3 is connected in slot 4

I have ran the network wizzard a lot of times and I still cant seem to get all 3 on the net. Will someone please help me.

I think I had the same problem with a Linksys BEFSR41 router too.

I'm pretty poor at networking, so ended up using a brute force approach to solving the problem (i.e. try different ideas with no idea why). My solution was then to do away with the USB cable and connect all the comps using RJ45 network cables.

Ouch! Before I had the three computer I was able to connect two together. I went to the Linksys website and couldn't find any info that helped. Since a friend gave me the hub I have to documents on it so I guess I will just have to play around with it some more

i'll assume your using xp?

1)delete all the network connections from each computer, and turn them off. Hookup the main pc, install all the software for the router, and leave it turned on.

2)many install disks have an "add computer" option, boot up each second pc without them plugged into the router and run this software (if u have it), reboot them and plug in the cat5.

3)if u have no add computer option, boot up each pc one at a time plugged into the network and let xp auto detect.

all i did for my belkin router was plug them in, xp did the rest.

With the USB cable?
Basically I did something similiar to what you described (but on Win98 SE), but I couldnt use the USB cable for it.

It will not let me delete any network connections, the only thing I can do is disable them.

sometimes it works that way depends on the install. make sure your not specifying ip;s

why dont you run the modem into the uplink and each computer out of a seperate port on the router. This way you wont need the "main" computer on for the others to access the internet.

When I try to connect a computer up to port 2 or port1 on my router I don't get a connection with them (no led lights and the router or the back of my computer). But when I place all the computers connected to the ports they all light up. Does this mean I have a bad router? I have tried connecting my cable to the wan and the uplink and nothing worked . Firewalls are disable and ics is set up on all computers.

All 3 systems are using windows xp and the network is set up to get the isp automatically and the dhcp is enabled as well.

hmm, all i did was put my modem in the uplink and put the other pcs in the other ports. I missred the original post i thouhgt you had doen that.
