    New 2.6 kernel, ALSA problems

I upgraded to the 2.6 Linux kernel, and I can't get sound working. I tried playing a MP3 in XMMS, and I have it set up to use ALSA, and it plays the file, but there is no output to my speakers. I compiled support for my sound card into the kernel (C-Media and SiS) and it just doesn't do anything.

    Which distribution are you using?
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah

Have you rebuilt ALSA since you compiled the new kernel?

ALSA is part of the kernel in 2.6, no external compiling is needed.

The 2.6 kernel doesn't have alsa-utils installed though. You still need to have that.

I had trouble recompiling for the 2.6 kernels too, so I gave up on mandrake and went to freeBSD.
    PHP and XML
    Let's talk about SAX

I wasn't aware of that. I'll try it. Thx!
