visual studio 2003 academic...

im very sorry if this doesnt belong here, but i dont know where else to put it.

im thinking about purchacing visual studio 2k3 academic, but before i do, i'd like to know more of its limitations. i already have visual studio 7 (got it free from school, they had an open licence with microsoft as long as ur taking the class, or something) andone thing i really like about the 2003 is being able to collapse functions and what not.

things i'd like to know before i buy it

#1 limitations
(ie, can i use the exe on any other computer, or just my computer?)
#2 is it in any way different from the actual professional version?
any other insite would be helpful

Usually academic version can't package projects for distribution, and they usually don't come with J++. And there's usually a limit on how many source files can be compiled (but it's an arbitrarily huge number so you'll never have to worry about it). Basically the limitations won't concern you unless you're compiling the mainframe code for some fortune 500 company. The academic version will suit your purposes.

Since you already have a version of Visual Studio, this isn't for you revelation, but if anybody else is thinking of getting some .NET compiler, Microsoft has a free, downloadable SDK. It's all command-line, so you need to do all the coding by hand, but unless you're in a position where a company would pick up the tab anyway, I think it's well worth the $2000 you save.
