Which is better? A GeForce3 Ti500, or an ATI Radeon 9200? I'm getting a new computer with the ATI card, and my current PC has the GeForce in it now. I am wondering if I should switch my GeForce to the new PC, or if I should stay with the ATI.

I would guess the Radeon would be, but graphics cards are weird. Especially nVidia ones. I hate it when the release "new" cards that are slower than their old ones.
The only real way to check would be to try both in the computer. Different computers are better at different graphics cards. It's another one of those weird graphics card things.
Ohhhhhhh, tought one there. The Radeon isn't a whole lot faster than a nVidia FX 5200, and the FX5200 isn't a whole lot faster than the Ti500, if at all.
I'd probably stick to the ATI.
Download 3DMark (www.madonion.com) and test the computer with the two graphics cards. You might wanna rename the exe file just in case the nVidia drivers pick up you're testing it and do some 'optimization' tricks.
Don't forget to uninstall the drivers when changing the graphics cards!

You didn't give the rest of the specs of your computer, so I just kinda guessedThese compares are with a P3 at upwards of 1.3 GHz. It looks pretty clear here that the Ti500 is actually the better card by enough to make it worth the upgrade
Cool, thanks. It'll be on a 2.66GHz P4 (1GB DDR RAM, 160GB HDD), so I think I'll transfer the GF3 over.

I owuld suggest a Geforce 4 FX series (5600 and above)... I was amazed by the graphics.. and it beats ATI's 9200 series hands down......
But herd that the new ATI 9800 or whatever series beats the GForce FX....

GeForce 4 and GeForce FX are two seperate generations. GeForce FX could be kinda considered GeForce 5.
GeForce 4 comes in two flavors, MX and TI. The MX cards aren't much more than fluffed up GeForce 2, the Radeon 9200 would be the better choice here. GeForce 4 MX isn't even DirectX 8! It's only DX7.
The Ti cards would all be better than the Radeon 9200. Lowest end is Ti4200 (what I have) and is certainly a great card, can probably find one (new/refurbished) for less than $75, used for like $50 probably.
GeForce FX comes only as that, there is no MX and Ti. This makes it confusing because then you have to know specifically what models are and how they relate. The FX 5200 comes in a variety of models starting with the super crappy 64 bit mem bus up to the 5200 ultra, prices going from about $75 to $200 (for the same "model"!!!). The 5200 is the "MX" of the FX line, avoid it like the plauge. The 5600 (ultra) is about as fast as a GF4 Ti4200 but it does DX9 and is better at handling AntiAliasing and Ansiostropic Filtering. The FX 5700 is the new midline card, the ultra can be found for about $200 and is definately the winner for performance/price in the FX line. FX5800 was a flop, even nVidia made fun of it. Takes 2 PCI slots, has a cooler that sounds like a dust buster, and had (comparitively) crappy performance. The FX5900/5950 are the current top dogs of the FX line. Both are excelent cards, but are also extremely expensive.
Now... if you're still with me.... like Vasanth said the ATI Radeon 9800 (regular/pro/XT) will beat ALL nVidia cards

not really, it's a good card, but not worth the 100-200 dollars more you pay depending on the vendor. I would reccomend a Radeon 9600 XT, as it is a very very good card, overclocks extremely well, and is pretty much the best card for its price in the whole bunch and will give pretty good results in graphics intensive games such as DOOM3 and HL2.The ATI Radeon 9800 XT is a lot faster than ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, by the way.
I would go with 128 meg of Ram on a card, as 256 has two disadvantages:
1) alot more expensive
2) really doesnt see much use, as games today dont use the 128 megs of ram yet, and by the time they do, that 256 megs isnt going to satiate the need for GPU speed those games will need.
