I'm looking for a linux distro that supports an ATI Radeon 9700 any suggestions. I looked up mandrake and suse, suse says the driver is problematic and I don't think mandrake supports it. Anyone tried suse, or found any other distribution that has a driver?
are you needing XFree86 3.0? The reason is, that none of the drivers for R300 provide hardware acceleration that i have seen, and if there is, its a real pain in the neck to setup(i myself spent around 5 hours changing settings to no avail.)However, i would recommend slackware 9.0, or FreeBSD. Whatever you decide on, check out www.linuxiso.org , they have mirrors to most of the major distros
I don't need hardware acceleration. I will look into these distros thanks for the response!
I installed slackware 9.1 tonight. It took a little more effort than Mandrake, but seems to be running smooth. Still need to get my internet connection working but that shouldn't be a problem. Just posting to say thanks for the suggestion
