    I agree with you as well, but my point is that you can take advantage of a lot of features of an environment like Macromedia Studio MX and never touch the WYSIWYG aspect of it. It's a huge advantage over notepad and will make learning a lot easier.

    He should begin with HTML. I believe most of the responses assumed that he knows HTML and was simply looking for a serverside language to learn.
