    Friend buying computer

My friend wants to buy a new computer, so he was looking at a site and he showed it. Unfortunately, I'm not so good at choosing the best computers or the best parts, so maybe you guys can give me an opinion about the computers from this site.

I've already been there considering my new rig, just like any other online store, they're ripping you off. So, either build it yourself, or go the safe route and buy a dell refurb. (they're having a sale on top of their sale for 50% off some rigs)

How much money is he looking to spend btw, we may be able to help build him one

heh, hes looking to buy the cheapest computer possible that is still good for gaming, what else? :P Well, you can take into account the fact that he has less than $100 dollars now, so probably hes hoping to spend not much more than $500..but thats just a guess

edit: actually I think he mentioned something about $800, but it will be some time before he gets there, if thats the case

Well have him give you a more realistic amount ( I can build a top of the line computer for 5-600 USD...not sure what a good monitor will set him back though).
Ask him if he wants AMD or INTEL, and I can take it from there.

Hm I'll have to find out more for him...I don't know that he has a preference of AMD over Intel...And I'm not sure that he'd be comfortable buying from a single person that he doesn't know through the internet. But I'll tell him about it

Oh and by the way, where do you live?

He doesn't have to buy from me, I'll come up with a list of parts he can buy cheaper than if he went through the retail people online. You just said neither of you had experience so I figured I'd help you guys out by giving you a list of good parts for cheap...that and it's fun to "build a computer" with someone else's money, lol. Seems like they always have better ones that me...
But if you're curious I live outside DeKalb, IL, USA.

    >>> I can build a top of the line computer for 5-600 USD

I couldn't buy a top of the range processor for that, let alone any of the other bits and pieces.

    *** EDIT ***

I lied, I just looked, I can get a 3.2GHz P4 Northwood-C for $470. Even so, I'd be pushed to get anything else to go with it. Maybe a cooler.

I didn't say top of the line INTEL
hell no, not for that little money, if it was AMD I could go all out for 600 bucks. And don't be so nitpicky, she couldn't afford to have EVERYTHING be top of the line. You pick and choose, and it'll come out a hell of a lot better than anything you'd buy off the shelf.
