I always said it like Gee-You-I as in the letters, but then when I got into my A+ class, my instructer was calling it a gooey... it's starting to rub off on me, and i'm wondering if there's a right way, and how everybody else says it...

I prefer gee-you-eye as most professionals, but it's largely personal preference.
My best code is written with the delete key.
do you prelude? It's just that GUI gets used as a prefix so often that it makes functions easier to say by saying Gooey. I guess it probably depends on who you work around too. I just found out recently that .gif is pronounced JIFF and not GIFF. pronouncing things incorrectly can make you look silly can't it.

i say gooey. Old Dilbert cartoon was the first time I saw it pronounced in any manner so it kinda suck.
oh, and I learned how to pronounce "epoch" from the matrix.
(epoch relates to the way the system stores time. The point at which the system time was zero is known as "the start of the epoch")
"You are stupid! You are stupid! Oh, and don't forget, you are STUPID!" - Dexter
I always thought of it as "Gwee," but I never say it outloud

I know them not: not therefore am I short
Of knowing what I ought."

I probably use all 3, it depends who I'm talking too. To me It's Gee-You-Eye, but when doing a presentation or something, I use either the words or gooey because those 3 characters don't exactly roll off the tongue nicely. It's the "G" that does it. When talking to my colleagues, pretty much everything we produce(d) has a GUI, so simplifiyng to "UI", is much easier to say, and is understood to mean "GUI".
A .gif is a Giff, not a Jiff. Never heard that.

nope. the spec actually gives pronunciation. I was surprised too.

Every time I hear "Gooey" I cringe, it's so stupid. G U I for me.
Thor's self help tip:
Maybe a neighbor is tossing leaf clippings on your lawn, looking at your woman, or harboring desires regarding your longboat. You enslave his children, set his house on fire. He shall not bother you again.

Gee-you-eye
Gooey makes me cringe as well...it sounds so...gooey and slimy and non-programmer-ish
Gee-you-eye
Gooey sounds silly, especially when a professional adult is saying it.
Jiff for me too.

I think any standard that seeks to formularise the way people say the 3 characters gif is being overly pedantic. I have never heard anyone call it "JIFF", always "GIFF".
Since the letter "J" is pronounced as a "Y" in Danish, "JIFF" would come out as "YIFF", thus stating it should be pronounced "JIFF" already adds ambiguity to the point.
Consider the derivation of the abreviation "G"raphics not "J"raphics. Trying to pronounce that put me in mind of a long necked African camel relative.
Frankly, I don't care, I would probably understand what someone meant however they pronounced it.

i've never actually heard anybody say giff before... actually, I have, but it was in an HTML class and the teacher corrected them... that was the last time i heard that...
@Waldo2k2: i was afraid of that, but didn't see it.
