    bad error

I'm getting errors everytime I try to book into Mandrake. It keeps coming up with a failure to reconize /dev/hda5 which is the one with Linux on it so it has to be corrupted doesnt it? How do I clear this off so I can use it again? I can't do anything from my Mandrake disk because it freezes while trying to read the hda5 thing. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Well, when you say "mandrake disk", do you mean hda5 or do you mean the cd?
My advice is if you really can't load linux, pop the install cd in and reinstall it (selecting to format that drive first of course).

The madrake disk IS install cd. When it gets to the partitioning part of the install it trys to do something on the hda5 part of my harddrive where Linux is located and then it says theres an error on it and asks me to fix. I select yes (because no just goes back and tries to read again) and it freezes while trying to fix. I can boot into linux, but there is something wrong when I try and it sends me to the full screen command line then gets me to try to repair which I don't know how to.

Is it asking you to fsck your drive?

If so then, you'll have to login at that command prompt as root and run this:

fsck /dev/hda5 assuming that partition is corrupted.

That's file system check. Normally, saying yes to everything should let the checking flow smooth, and sometimes it's gonna take more than just a few minutes.
