OK. You know those usb sticks of rom that you can get for more memory. Well I was wondering if it was possible to put a full os onto it and load it from that with a restart? Or is that just not possible?

The way I see it, you'd need to have something like the boot from usb drive as the first boot drive in BIOS. Guess, we still dont have such mobos yet...?

I think i've heard of some BIOS that can boot off the USB port... I'm not sure tho...

Yeah, my dad's mobo can do that. Actually, that's the only way we can boot up from DVD since the internal DVD reader doesn't boot DVDs even though it boots fine with CDs.
dxdiag tells me that the BIOS is: "Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.0PG" and I think my mobo can too (A7N8X Deluxe PCB2.0), but I can't remember.
I'm not sure if you could boot from a memory stick though. You'd need to format it to be able to boot, never heard of anybody doing that, although it's probably possible

Yes, it's possible to format a USB thumbdrive, on this WinXP machine, as either FAT or FAT32.
Maybe you could even have ext2 or ext3 on a Linux machine.
