saving a real player file

hey all,

does anybody know of a way I could save a Real Player file? The file comes through as a stream, but it is not live. A put a link to one of the files below.

I remember that on Win98 I could "save" rm files by copying them from my temporary internet files once I saw the file online; this is not the case with XP though.

I was thinking maybe of running another program simultanously to record the stream...yet I don't know of anything like it.

I really don't want to hook up my laptop to the tv and record the stream to a tape!

any ideas?

EDIT::I remember Waldo2k2 recommending goldwave to extract audio - I will have to do this if nothing will come of the video.

all a .rm stream file is a text file with the url to the actual file. You save the .rm file and open in notepad, and then download the .rm files it points too.

You will have to run that by me again...I saved that link, and then opened it in notepad. This appeared:

Brian is correct in that the usual way to use RealMedia files in a webpage is to create a redirector file (Usualy suffixed .ram) that is accessed via HTTP.

The URL that file contains, however, can be one of two things:-
1. The main RealMedia file, hosted via HTTP. You would be able to download it easy-peasy, which would be better than just playing it as RealPlayer will have to download it all to play it anyway.

2. The main RealMedia file, hosted via PNM/RTSP. The PNM (Progressive Networks Media) protocol is a proprietary streaming system developed by the folks at RealNetworks. RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) is a newer open streaming standard. You cannot conventionally access PNM, and although you could write software to deal with RTSP, RealMedia servers require you to authenticate before you can play a file.

RealPlayer Plus would allow recording of some streams, but I'm not sure they sell it anymore.

well if your really desperate you could get screen capturing recording software and just record that portion of the screen that is playing the movie
