basically there is a dmi database (dmi is an interface between your hardware and software) on your bios chip. Most OS's during boot will query the dmi database and "verify" it. Meaning it looks for it, reads it, and attempts to identify your hardware and its characteristics. For instance, older bios's can't be set up to work with USB, large hdd's, boot from cd, etc. If you're curious about it, that's the gist of it, if you have a problem with it, i suggest you do a google search, i noticed a few links pointing to various solutions to dmi data pool problems.
    PHP and XML
    Let's talk about SAX
