remove cd-checking

i have an old game that doesn't run when the cd is not in the drive. how would i remove the part that checks for the cd so i can play without the cd. I know there's no-cd patches and exe's but does anybody know how to do it manually?

Don't cross post. I've removed your thread from GD.

This topic has been covered before too.

[edit]
As this is running close to the "how do I circumvent copy protection" type thread, I'll close it. You may not mean it that way, but in essence, that's what it comes down to.
When all else fails, read the instructions.
If you're posting code, use code tags:
/* insert code here */
