    Partition Magic

Ok. I'm really fed up. I can't repartition my Windows. I currently have Windows XP home on an NTFS partition. It is the C: drive. With...

    38,155 MB total.
    16,500 used
    22,000 left over.

Now I have a little bit of free unallocated space on my 7.8 MB. I'm trying to repartition my primary Windows for room for mandrake. I want to change it to have 25,000 MB total. That would leave me with about 13,000 MB free space. I've tried resizing it with Partition Magic 8.0 to those specifics. Thats all I do is resize the windows partition to 25,000 MB and then restart to allow those changes. it gets to the screen before windows boots and then it says error:101. I've tried looking up that error and nothing. I just want some free space! Can anyone help? There isn't any other topics on this and google isn't helping me too terrably much

No I haven't tried the Mandrake one. I'm not getting error 101 when I try to install Linux. I'm getting it from Partition Magic (8.0 by the way) when I reboot to make the changes. It says making changes then error 101 press any key to change. windows XP home doesn't come with a disk management tool. It has something that you can look at your partitions but not alter.

I don't really understand that explanation. I only have one active partition as of now and don;t understand the table thing.

I've read that Partition magic doesn't work well with XP. and it seems that I also heard that a new version of PM is suppose to come out for XP.

I've had that error rather frequently when playing w/ PM 8. The only way I could think of is use the disk management that comes w/ XP. Delete the partitions you dont need and leave them as unpartitioned. Use PM to resize etc.

I'mm using XP home. there isn't too much to work with and the disk management isn't that great. I don't see a resize option on it anywhere.

Hmm. I might if I had any damn clue where to start. If you aren't going to give an input worth my time don't $$$$ing bother.

Nope, you wont be able to resize partitions w/ XP Home or Pro's disk management console, you're only allowed to delete and format partitions.

Use it to, as such, delete any unwanted partitions and launch your PM8 to recreate, resize partitions etc.

It would help or it wouldn't, either way, it's worth a try

There's also Ranish partition manager that comes w/ XOSL I think...Havent had any experience w/ it, but if you're so stuck w/ PM, might be worth it to check it out..

An altogether new disk, that's nice. Dont forget to use hdparm to increase I/O of that disk in Mdk.
